Department: Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN)
 Apply

Position Description

WCN is looking for a Marketing Coordinator to help our Communications and Marketing Department run as efficiently as possible.

The Marketing Coordinator is the “backbone” of the department, responsible for keeping the department’s administrative functions running like clockwork. This position is also responsible for ensuring our donor emails are constructed and disseminated on time and without error. Candidates should have experience in developing processes/procedures and spearheading administrative functions, with an eagle eye for detail and top-notch organizational skills. Experience with working in nonprofit communications and an interest in saving wildlife are ideal.

Applications accepted until April 15, 2022.

What you will do:

Administrative Support: 70% of time

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage all internal processes and resources for the Marketing and Communications Department such as tracking invoices, maintaining databases, and managing calendars.
  • Manage WCN’s blog
  • Support content development through research, “story-mining”, and fact checking when necessary.
  • Make thoughtful recommendations regarding improvements and adjustments to the department’s processes and procedures. Research new services and technologies.
  • Primary point person for volunteers and people offering in-kind contributions related to communications and marketing.
  • Assist with development of donor surveys.
Email Marketing and Engagement Support: 25% of time
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Build donor emails in MailChimp (and Salesforce as needed).
  • Work with Donor Engagement to match email lists to various segmented emails.
  • Ensure emails go out to the correct lists, on time, and with zero errors in coordination with Donor Engagement.
  • Research and make recommendations on new trends in email design and outreach for different segmented groups.
Other: 5% of time
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Occasional outreach to press/media outlets.
  • Deploy marketing support services to field-based wildlife conservationists to help strengthen support for their work.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What we care about most:

Experience: You have experience with improving existing and/or developing new administrative processes and procedures. You have managed the day-to-day administrative functions of an organization or department before—this includes things like scheduling and maintaining calendars, managing databases, and organizing departmental materials. You can demonstrate proficiency advising and responding to a team's needs. While you don’t need to have had an extensive career in nonprofit communications, you should have a general understanding and enthusiasm for this field of work.

A Customer-Service Approach: You are a team-player willing to jump in and help on a variety of projects. As this role necessitates working with partners around the world and across all departments at WCN you are someone who prioritizes relationships and offering a helpful attitude. You know how to “herd cats”, working with a variety of different people to complete a project.

Problem-Solving: You take initiative to get things done without needing constant direction. You think deeply about how we can improve our work and you offer solutions, not just point out problems. You’re able to work independently and anticipate the department’s needs.

Alignment With Our Mission and Values: You don’t need to have experience in wildlife conservation, but you should care about WCN’s mission and about wildlife conservation and you be able to champion WCN’s values (read them here).

Basic Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of marketing/communications and/or administrative experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
  • Competency with MailChimp, email templates, and some basic understanding of html.
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of initiatives concurrently.
Why Wildlife Conservation Network?

The Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN) is a rapidly growing leader in wildlife conservation—our mission is to protect endangered wildlife by supporting conservationists who ensure wildlife and people coexist and thrive. We support partners around the world working to save endangered species on every continent on Earth. Our team values the people and relationships behind conservation as much as the science and strategy to save wildlife. We are a small team and each role is having an impact on our mission.

Our working environment is dynamic and supportive and we value learning and curiosity. We have been working remotely since the pandemic and some of our colleagues are not based in the Bay Area—however we do have plans for Bay Area based employees to return to the office at least part-time in March 2022.

Reports To: Director of Marketing and Communications

Benefits: The position is full-time and will include health and retirement benefits. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications. WCN is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

To Apply:
Please include your resume and a cover letter that outlines why you are interested in this position and why you feel you are the right candidate.
